That project would be able to tap into a portion of the $2.6 billion carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) tax credit outlined in the recent federal budget.Mark Pattenden, senior vice president of Shell Canada and general manager of Shell Scotford, said he was delighted by the announcement and noted the company will build upon the success of its original Quest Carbon Capture and Storage project, which since late 2015 has stored seven million tonnes of CO2 two-kilometres underground.This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.“It’s exciting times and exciting times will continue to happen,” Pattenden said on Wednesday during a Life in the Heartland update. “Of course, there is a lot of work to be done. We’re working closely with the Government of Alberta to actually lend and agree to all of the terms to which we will operate safely and reliably for this new CO2 storage hub.”It would be a key part to Shell’s commitment to be net-zero by 2030. The Atlas Hub will capture between 750,000 to 850,000 tonnes annually and is expected to capture ten times as much carbon than Quest.
